Zaha Hadid ontwerpt rechtbank Madrid

Architect Zaha Hadid heeft de prijsvraag gewonnen voor het ontwerp van een nieuwe rechtbank in Madrid. Dat meldt de website van Building Design. Het gebouw maakt deel uit van het masterplan Campus de la Justicia.

Zaha Hadid is in 1950 geboren in Bagdad en volgt haar opleiding aan de Londense Architectural Association. In 1977 ontvangt ze de Diploma Prize. Een partnerschap met Rem Koolhaas en Elia Zenghelis bij OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) volgt, en ze gaat doceren aan dezelfde Architectural Association. Tot 1987 heeft ze hier een eigen studio. Ze neemt deel aan een groot aantal internationale prijsvragen waarvan ze er vele wint, onlangs nog voor het Cincinnati Contemporary Art Museum en het Centro per le Arti Contemporanee in Rome.

The new building will add a focus to the masterplan for the city's Campus de la Justicia area. The envelope will be composed of a double-ventilated façade with the exterior layer of the facade made up of metallic panels which respond to environmental and program conditions. These panels shift from open to closed and from flat to extended.The metallic panels on the roof of the building will incorporate photovoltaic cells.

Inside, a spiralling semi-circular atrium develops around a public courtyard. The atrium overlooks the courtyard, which serves as instant reference point for visitors to move around the building and extends to the lower ground floor, providing natural light to enter the court rooms at that level.
